A sweet pair of baby socks that brings a little special touch. Knit them in different colors to create a matching set for any outfit.
Loom: Sock Loom 2.
Yarn: Approx 60 yds of light weight merino wool yarn. Sample used Louet Gems, 100% Merino Wool, 175 yards/100 grams. Colors: White for main color (MC), Crabapple for contrasting color (CC).
Notions: knitting tool, tapestry needle, two sets of stitch markers (4 stitch markers total), double pointed needles (for Kitchener stitch).
Gauge: 11 sts x 16 rows= 2 inches in stockinette (unblocked)
Size: 6-9 months
Abbreviations
CC=Contrasting color
CO=Cast on
K= knit stitch—sample uses the U-stitch; may substitute with the regular knit stitch
MC=main color
P=purl stitch
W&T=wrap peg and turn to knit in the opposite direction
Rnd=round
SSK=Slip, slip knit. Over 2 pegs—peg 1 is on the right, peg 2 is on the left. Move loop from peg 2 to peg. Knit peg 1, treating both loops on peg as one loop.

YO=yarn over. Ewrap the peg. On the following row/round, undo the ewrap and place it in front of the peg (the yarn will be loose).
INSTRUCTIONS
Prepare loom: Set up loom to 28 pegs. Place one set of stitch markers (matching color) on peg 1 and 14. Place the second set of stitch markers (matching color) on pegs 18 and 27.
Using MC, CO 28 sts, prepare to work in the rnd.
Rnd 1-4: K to the end of rnd.
Rnd 5: *SSK, YO; rep from * to end of rnd.
Rnd 6-8: k to the end of rnd.
Rnd 9: Pick up cast on rnd and place those loops back on their respective pegs. Each peg will have 2 loops on it. k to the end of rnd (treat the two loops on each peg as one loop).

Rnd 10-17: k to the end of rnd.
Join CC.
Rnd 18-19: with CC, k to the end of rnd.
HEEL INSTRUCTIONS
**First set of stitch markers mark the pegs for the heel. **
Heel—the next portion continues after Rnd 19. The heel is worked in short-rows (partial rows). A short row heel has two parts, the decreasing section (Rows 1-8) then an increasing section (Row 9-17). On the pegs that have move than one loop, treat all those loops as one and knit them as normal.
Row 1: k13, W&T peg 14.
Row 2: k12, W&T peg 1.
Row 3: k11, W&T peg 13.
Row 4: k10, W&T peg 2.
Row 5: k9, W&T peg 12.
Row 6: k8, W&T peg 3.
Row 7: k7, W&T peg 11.
Row 8: k6, W&T peg 4.
Row 9: k7, W&T peg 12.
Row 10: k8, W&T peg 3.
Row 11: k9, W&T peg 13.
Row 12: k10, W&T peg 2.
Row 13: k11, W&T peg 14.
Row 15: k12, W&T peg 1.
Row 16: k13, W&T peg 15.
Row 17: K14, W&T peg 28.
Heel section complete. The sock will be worked in the round from this point forward, until the toe section is reached.

Next rnd: with CC, k to the end of rnd (pegs 15 and 28 have two loops on them, treat both loops as one loop).
**Place second set of stitch matching stitch marker on peg 27 and peg 16. **
Peg 27 will become from this point forward peg 1, placing the matching stitch marker on peg 18. The bottom portion of the ballerina sock is worked over these 18 pegs in CC; the top section is worked in the MC.
Next rnd:
PU CC, k18 (from peg 1-18).
Make slip knot with MC and place it on peg 19. Join both yarns with a square knot.
With MC, k10 (from peg 19-28).
Next rnd:
PU CC, k18 (from peg 18-1).
Cross yarns (if they do not cross, there will be a gap between the two colors).
PU MC, k10 (from 28-19).
Next rnd:
PU CC, k18 (from peg 1-18).
Cross yarns.
PU MC, k10 (from 19-28).
Next rnd:
PU CC, k18 (18-1).
Cross yarns.
PU MC, k10 (from peg 28-19).
Rep last 2 rnds: 3 more times.
Cut MC, leaving a 6 inch yarn tail.
Next rnd: with CC k to the end of rnd.
Remove second set of stitch markers. Only heel stitch markers remain. Continue to toe instructions.
TOE INSTRUCTIONS
Repeat heel instructions.
Lift the bottom loop off peg 15 (this peg has one wrap).
Kitchener the toe close.
Weave in all the ends. (Make sure that there are no loose stitches or long floats of yarn as they can wrap around the baby’s toes and cut off circulation).
Block lightly.
